About the department

Our surgical centre

Surgical and hospital care at Life Line Diagnostic & Cardiac Hospital

Our consultant surgeons manage a broad range of general surgical conditions—including hernia, gallbladder disease, appendicitis, bowel problems, soft-tissue lumps, and selected emergency presentations—using evidence-based pathways. Where appropriate, laparoscopic (keyhole) techniques are offered to reduce incision size and support earlier mobilisation. The department works closely with anesthesia, cardiology, medicine, radiology, laboratory, and intensive care so that high-risk patients are assessed thoroughly before theatre and monitored carefully afterward. We emphasise informed consent, pain control, infection prevention, and clear follow-up after discharge.

What we offer

Services

Surgical consultation

Outpatient assessment of hernia, gallstones, lumps, abdominal pain, and other general surgical problems—with discussion of open versus laparoscopic options, risks, and recovery before a date is fixed.

Laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery

Minimally invasive approaches for suitable gallbladder, appendicectomy, and selected abdominal conditions—smaller incisions where clinically appropriate and coordinated with your anesthetist.

Hernia & abdominal wall

Inguinal, umbilical, and incisional hernia repair using mesh or tissue techniques as indicated, with emphasis on durable repair and return to activity.

Emergency & acute surgery

Urgent operations for appendicitis, bowel obstruction, perforated viscus, trauma, and other acute surgical conditions with handover from the emergency department and ICU when needed.

Post-operative care

Frequently asked questions

Call the hospital number above or visit reception with your GP or specialist referral if you have one. Our staff will suggest an available surgeon and explain any investigations (blood tests, imaging, ECG) that may be needed before a firm operation date is offered.
Bring identification, consent forms if already signed, a list of all medications and allergies, recent test results, and insurance or guarantee letters if applicable. Follow the fasting instructions given by your surgeon or anesthesia team—usually no food for several hours before a general anesthetic.
That depends on your diagnosis, anatomy, previous surgery, and overall fitness. Your consultant will explain whether keyhole surgery is suitable, what the alternative open approach involves, and any change of plan if findings at operation require it.
Length of stay varies by procedure—some day-case or short-stay laparoscopic operations allow discharge within 24–48 hours if you mobilise and tolerate diet; larger or emergency operations may need several days and occasionally ICU observation. Your team will give you a personalised estimate.
